Data Policy
Last updated: October 15, 2026
This page sits alongside the RollCast Privacy Policy and the global SVB Tech Labs Privacy Policy. It describes, in more detail, what RollCast does with data on your device and across your network.
1. Overview
RollCast is an offline app. It has no backend, no account system, and no connection to any server we run. Everything described below happens on your phone, or between your phone and devices on your own network.
2. What the App Stores
- Printer profiles — the printers you have added, with their paper width, character set and connection details.
- Saved receipts — jobs sent to the built-in Virtual printer, kept as PDF, image and raw printer data so you can review or print them later. Only the Virtual printer saves anything; jobs sent to a real printer are not retained.
- Approved devices — for printer sharing, one record per device you allowed.
- Settings — including the sharing password, stored encrypted using the Android Keystore.
All of it lives in the app's private storage, which other apps cannot read.
3. Network Print Server
When you switch on sharing, your phone listens on your Wi-Fi so other devices can print to it. A document sent that way goes straight from the sending device to your phone. It is spooled to the app's private storage, sent to your printer, and then deleted.
The app keeps a short activity log of who printed and how much — addresses, sizes and times, never the content — and that log is held in memory only, so it disappears when RollCast stops.
Sharing refuses connections from outside your local network, and a request that arrives claiming a hostname your phone does not own is rejected outright.
4. Security of Approved Devices
A device that pairs with RollCast receives a token. We store only a SHA-256 hash of that token, never the token itself — so a copy of the app's stored data reveals nothing that could be used to print. Pairing is bound to the phone's own key, which is what stops another device on the network from impersonating it.
Removing a device from the list stops it printing immediately, including a job already part-way through.
5. Retention and Deletion
- Saved receipts stay until you delete them, or are pruned automatically if you set an age limit.
- Approved devices stay until you remove them.
- Spooled jobs are deleted as soon as they have printed.
- Uninstalling RollCast deletes everything. There is no copy anywhere else, and nothing for us to delete on your behalf.
6. No Third-Party Processors
RollCast uses no analytics provider, no crash reporting service, no advertising network and no cloud storage. There are no sub-processors, because there is no data leaving your device for anyone to process.
