Privacy Policy

SVB Tech Labs (“we,” “our,” or “us”) makes RollCast, an Android app that prints to thermal receipt printers. This policy is short because RollCast is built not to need a long one: it has no account, no server of ours, and collects nothing about you.
1. Information We Collect
None. RollCast does not collect, transmit, or receive any personal data. Specifically, it has:
- No account, sign-in, or registration of any kind.
- No analytics or usage tracking.
- No crash or diagnostic reporting.
- No advertising, and no advertising identifier.
- No server operated by us that the app talks to.
We cannot see what you print, how often you print, or that you use the app at all.
2. What Stays on Your Device
RollCast stores the following in its own private storage on your phone:
- Printer profiles: the printers you add, their paper width and settings.
- Saved receipts: if you use the built-in Virtual printer, jobs are saved as PDF, image and raw printer data so you can print or review them later.
- Approved devices: if you share your printer over Wi-Fi, a record of each device you approved.
- Your settings: including the password shown on the sharing screen.
This data never leaves your phone unless you send it somewhere yourself. Uninstalling RollCast removes all of it.
3. Printing Over Your Network
RollCast can share your printer with other devices on the same Wi-Fi, so a laptop, phone or tablet can print through your phone. When that happens, the document travels directly from that device to your phone, on your own network. It does not pass through us, and we never receive it.
Not every connection is encrypted, and the app tells you which is which on screen. The paired connection uses TLS. The browser page, Add Printer (IPP) and raw port 9100 do not, which means someone else on the same Wi-Fi could read what is printed over them. Sharing is off until you switch it on, and it stops on its own when the phone leaves the network, after a long idle period, and whenever the phone restarts.
4. Permissions, and Why
- Bluetooth: to find and connect to your printer. RollCast declares that its Bluetooth scanning is not used to derive location.
- Network and Wi-Fi state: to reach network printers, and to share your printer with devices on your Wi-Fi.
- Notifications: to show print progress, and to ask you before an unknown device is allowed to print.
- Location: requested only on Android 11 and older, where the system required it for Bluetooth scanning. On current versions of Android it is not requested at all, and RollCast never uses your location for anything.
5. Children's Privacy
RollCast is a utility for printing and is not directed at children. Since it collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children.
6. Changes to This Policy
If RollCast ever changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page and the date above before shipping that change. If a future version were to collect anything, we would say so here and ask you first.
