Set up & use
Let a computer, tablet or another phone print on this printer.
Your phone can act as the printer for other devices on the same Wi-Fi. They send the receipt to the phone, and the phone prints it on the printer it is already connected to.
Turn it on
- 1On the printer you want to share, tap Share.
- 2Switch on Print server.
- 3Switch on a way to connect: Add Printer (IPP) suits most computers.
- 4Note the address shown, for example 192.168.1.20.
Tip
Keep the phone on the same Wi-Fi as the computer. The screen tells you if it is not, and the server stops on its own when the Wi-Fi changes.
Allow the computer
- 1The first time a computer prints, the phone asks whether to allow it.
- 2Check the code on the phone matches the one the computer shows, then tap Always.
- 3You can remove a device later from Allowed devices.
Add it on a Windows computer
- 1Open Settings, then Bluetooth & devices, then Printers & scanners.
- 2Tap Add device, wait for the scan, then Add manually.
- 3Choose Select a shared printer by name.
- 4Type the address shown on the phone, with :6310/ipp/print after it.
- 5Choose the Microsoft IPP Class Driver when Windows asks.
- 6Enter the password shown on the phone's Share screen if prompted.
Note
If you set the printer up the older way, using an IP port and the Generic / Text Only driver, leave "Trim blank paper at the end" switched on. That driver adds a full page of blank roll to every receipt.
Add it on a Mac
- 1Open System Settings, then Printers & Scanners, then Add Printer.
- 2The printer appears in the Default list as an AirPrint printer.
- 3Select it and tap Add.
Add it on an iPhone or iPad
- 1Make sure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi.
- 2In any app, tap Share, then Print.
- 3Tap Printer and pick this printer from the list.
Tip
An iPhone cannot see the printer over mobile data, or when a VPN is set to block local network access.
Add it on another Android phone
- 1Open a browser on the other phone.
- 2Go to the address shown on this phone's Share screen.
- 3Enter the password, then type or choose what to print.
If something goes wrong
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| The screen says it is not on Wi-Fi | Join a Wi-Fi network, or turn on this phone's hotspot and join the computer to that. |
| The computer cannot find the printer | Type the address by hand instead of searching. On Windows, set the network to Private first. |
| The address changed | Phones are given a new address from time to time. The Share screen shows the new one; update the computer. |
| Nothing prints and nothing is refused | Check the printer itself: out of paper or switched off shows on the Share screen. |
| A device prints that should not | Open Allowed devices and remove it. Anything using the open port can be blocked there too. |
Tip
The server stops when the phone restarts. Turn it back on from the Share screen.
