IP Camera Installation
Network cameras over PoE — higher resolution, smarter analytics, cleaner cabling.
IP cameras send video over your network and draw power from the same cable (PoE — Power over Ethernet). That means one CAT6 run per camera, resolutions from 4MP to 4K, and analytics that run on the camera itself.
SmartNest installs IP systems from a small PoE kit to a large multi-switch network, matched to your bandwidth and storage.
How it works
How a CCTV system connects
Basic IP camera setup
A straightforward PoE system: cameras plugged into an NVR's built-in PoE ports, recording locally, viewable on your phone.
Components
- 4–8 IP cameras (4MP), PoE-powered
- NVR with built-in PoE ports (8-channel)
- CAT6 cabling, one run per camera
- Surveillance HDD (2TB–4TB)
- Mobile and desktop viewing set up
Types
Turret / eyeball IP
Flexible aiming, low glare — the most popular IP all-rounder.
Dome IP
Discreet and vandal-resistant for indoors and entrances.
Bullet IP
Longer range and a visible deterrent for outdoor runs.
Brands we work with
Hikvision / Prama Hikvision — The most widely deployed CCTV brand in India — broad range from 2MP budget cameras to AcuSense AI and ColorVu full-colour night models.
CP Plus — Popular Indian-market brand with strong service availability and good value for homes and small businesses.
Dahua — Global manufacturer with a deep analog-HD and IP line-up, WizSense AI, and reliable NVRs/DVRs.
Example configurations
Home PoE kit
4× 4MP turret, 8-ch PoE NVR, 2TB HDD
A home wanting crisp, clean-wired coverage
Clinic / small office
6× 4MP, 8-ch PoE NVR, 4TB HDD, remote access
A clinic or office with reception and corridors

Advanced IP / network setup
Larger sites add PoE switches, higher-capacity NVRs, AI cameras and features like line-crossing detection, ANPR (number-plate) and full-colour night vision.
Components
- 12–32+ IP cameras (4MP–8MP/4K)
- Managed PoE switch(es) feeding a 16/32-channel NVR
- CAT6/CAT6A structured cabling and patch panel
- 8TB+ surveillance storage, optional RAID/redundancy
- AI analytics — AcuSense/WizSense, ANPR, people counting
- VLAN/isolated camera network and secure remote access
Types
AI camera (AcuSense / WizSense)
On-camera person/vehicle detection to cut false motion alerts.
ColorVu / full-colour night
Full-colour low-light footage, not black-and-white IR.
ANPR / LPR
Reads and logs vehicle number plates at gates and entries.
PTZ
Motorised pan-tilt-zoom for large yards and car parks.

Offices
AI alerts, per-user access and an isolated camera VLAN for security.
Gates & entries
ANPR number-plate logging for communities, factories and offices.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is PoE and why does it matter for IP cameras?+
PoE (Power over Ethernet) delivers data and power down a single CAT6 cable, so each camera needs just one run back to a PoE switch or NVR. It means tidier wiring, no separate power adapter at each camera, and easy centralised backup power.
Are IP cameras better than analog HD?+
For resolution, analytics and wiring, yes — IP gives 4MP–4K, on-camera AI and single-cable PoE. Analog HD is still a good economical choice at 2MP for small homes and shops. We match the technology to the site and budget.
Do IP cameras use a lot of internet bandwidth?+
Recording happens locally on the NVR, so your internet is only used when you view remotely. We also tune resolution and compression (H.265) to keep storage and bandwidth efficient.
Can IP cameras read number plates?+
Yes — a dedicated ANPR/LPR camera, correctly positioned at a gate or entry, reads and logs vehicle number plates. We set the angle, lens and lighting so plates are captured reliably.
