CCTV Fault Diagnosis & Repair
When it's not one camera but the whole system acting up — we find the root cause.
Single-camera faults are usually obvious. The hard ones are system-wide and intermittent: several cameras dropping at once, nightly recording gaps, random reboots, or a system that works until it rains. These need diagnosis, not guesswork.
SmartNest runs a structured diagnostic across cameras, cabling, power, network and the recorder to find the real cause — then fixes it, rather than swapping parts and hoping.
System-wide symptoms we diagnose
Patterns that point to a shared cause rather than one failed camera.
- Several cameras dropping offline together
- Intermittent faults — fine until it rains / gets hot
- Nightly recording gaps or missing time ranges
- Recorder rebooting at random
- Whole system slow or laggy over the network
- Images degrading across many cameras at once
- Remote access that works sometimes
Our diagnostic method
We isolate the layer — power, cable, network, recorder, config — instead of replacing parts blindly.
- Map the system and reproduce the fault pattern
- Test power/PoE budget and voltage under load
- Check cable terminations, runs and interference
- Inspect switch/network health and bandwidth
- Audit recorder, disk health and configuration
- Confirm the fix under the conditions that triggered it
Brands we work with
Any brand & mixed systems — We diagnose single-brand and mixed Hikvision/CP Plus/Dahua/Honeywell installations.
Use cases
Where it's used
Intermittent gremlins
Faults that come and go and nobody else has pinned down.
Weather-triggered faults
Systems that fail in heat or rain — usually power, ingress or cabling.
Recording gaps
Footage missing for ranges of time despite 'recording' being on.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Several of my cameras go offline at once — why?+
A shared cause is likely: an overloaded or failing PoE switch/power supply, a network bottleneck, or a recorder issue — not several cameras failing independently. We test the power budget, network and recorder to find which layer is at fault.
My CCTV has gaps in the recording — what causes that?+
Common causes are a failing hard disk, an undersized disk overwriting too soon, motion-only recording missing events, or the recorder rebooting. We audit disk health and the recording configuration to find and close the gaps.
The system only fails when it rains or gets hot — can you find it?+
Yes — weather-triggered faults usually point to water ingress at a camera/junction, a marginal power supply, or thermal issues in an enclosure. We reproduce the conditions and trace the specific point of failure.
How is this different from a normal camera repair?+
A camera repair fixes one obviously-failed device. Fault diagnosis is for system-wide, intermittent or recurring problems where the cause isn't obvious — we methodically isolate power, cabling, network and recorder before fixing.
