CCTV System Upgrades
Don't rip it all out — upgrade what matters and reuse the rest, in stages.
An older CCTV system rarely needs to be thrown away wholesale. Often you can reuse cabling, add cameras, move from analog to IP where it counts, grow storage, and add AI and remote access — upgrading in stages that fit a budget.
SmartNest audits what you have and designs an upgrade path, so you spend on the improvements that actually matter.
Common upgrades
Where upgrades give the biggest return — clarity, coverage, retention and smarts.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can I upgrade from analog to IP without rewiring everything?+
Often yes. A hybrid/XVR recorder runs your existing analog cameras and new IP cameras together, so you migrate the important points to IP first and keep the rest — spreading the cost and avoiding a full rip-out.
Is it worth upgrading old 2MP cameras?+
Where identification matters — entrances, tills, gates — upgrading to 4MP/4K and full-colour night vision makes a real difference to usable evidence. Elsewhere, older cameras may be fine. We advise where the upgrade pays off.
Can you make my old CCTV viewable on my phone?+
Usually yes — many legacy recorders support secure remote access once correctly configured, or a recorder upgrade enables it. We set up and test phone viewing on the existing system where possible.
Can I add AI motion detection to my current system?+
AI person/vehicle detection runs on the camera or a capable NVR, so it typically means upgrading the relevant cameras and/or recorder. We identify the minimum change to get reliable AI alerts where you need them.
