Smart Home Camera Integration

Cameras that talk to your smart home — displays, voice, doorbells and automations.

A camera doesn't have to be an island. SmartNest ties cameras into your wider smart home so a live feed appears on your Echo Show or Google display, a doorbell press lights the hallway, and motion after midnight pings your phone.

This is where SmartNest's AIoT side meets CCTV — security that behaves like a smart home, not a separate box in a cupboard.

How a CCTV system connects

How a CCTV system connects — cameras record to an on-site NVR/DVR, and your router streams live and recorded footage to the cloud and your phone.

Basic smart integration

Bring your cameras and doorbell into one app and your voice assistants, with sensible automations.

  • Wi-Fi cameras and a video doorbell
  • Alexa (Echo Show) / Google Nest Hub for live view
  • Single app with routines and sharing
  • Motion + door/window sensors linked to alerts
  • Smart lighting triggered by camera/motion events

Voice-display live view

'Show the front door' on an Echo Show or Nest Hub.

Doorbell automation

A press announces on speakers and can turn on lights.

Motion-to-light scenes

Night motion switches on porch or hallway lighting.

Ezviz / Hikvision — Works with Alexa and Google for live view and clips.

TP-Link Tapo — Simple routines and assistant support for homes.

Amazon Alexa / Google Home — The hubs that display feeds and run the automations.

Advanced automation & AIoT

For a truly connected property we combine cameras with sensors, controllers and local rules — the SmartNest AIoT approach — so events trigger actions automatically.

  • Edge gateway / hub running local automation rules
  • AI person/vehicle detection driving automations
  • Integration with lights, locks, alarms and sirens
  • Scenes (Away/Home/Night) that change camera + alert behaviour
  • Notifications and dashboards across phone and displays

Rule-based automation

If a person is seen at the gate at night → light + alert + record.

Access + camera link

A door unlock event tags the matching camera clip.

Scene control

'Away' arms cameras, tightens alerts and can trigger sirens.

SmartNest AIoT — Our own edge-gateway + rules approach to tie it together — see the AIoT page.

Hikvision / Dahua — AI cameras whose events drive the automations.

Where it's used

Connected home

Feeds on your smart display, doorbell announcements, motion-triggered lights.

Elderly / family care

Gentle alerts and easy live view for checking in on family.

Whole-property scenes

'Away' mode arms cameras and tightens alerts across the house.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see my CCTV on an Alexa or Google display?+

Yes — with compatible cameras we link them to Alexa (Echo Show) or Google Nest Hub so you can say 'show the front door' and see a live feed. We set up the accounts and test every device.

Can camera motion turn on my lights?+

It can. We create automations where motion — ideally AI person/vehicle detection to avoid false triggers — switches on smart lighting, announces on speakers, or sends a phone alert. This is part of SmartNest's AIoT automation work.

What's the difference between smart cameras and a full AIoT setup?+

Smart cameras add app and voice-assistant convenience. A full AIoT setup adds a local gateway running rules, deeper integration with locks, alarms and sensors, and scenes that change behaviour automatically — security that acts, not just records.

Will automations still work if the internet goes down?+

With a local edge gateway, core rules keep running on the premises even without internet; cloud features (remote view, notifications) resume when the connection is back. We design critical automations to run locally.
