Wireless CCTV Setup
Cameras where cabling is hard — Wi-Fi, battery, solar and 4G, set up and secured.
Wireless CCTV skips the video cabling: cameras connect over Wi-Fi (or 4G where there's no internet) and record to a microSD card, a Wi-Fi NVR or the cloud. It's ideal for rented homes, heritage buildings, far gates and places where running cable isn't practical.
We're honest about the trade-offs — wireless still usually needs power nearby (unless it's battery/solar), and Wi-Fi range and interference matter. We survey signal before we promise coverage.
How it works
How a CCTV system connects
Basic wireless setup
Self-contained Wi-Fi cameras recording to microSD or cloud, viewed from an app — quick to deploy with minimal disruption.
Components
- Wi-Fi cameras (indoor pan-tilt, outdoor bullet)
- microSD cards and/or cloud subscription
- Strong Wi-Fi at each camera (mesh/extender if needed)
- Power adapter near each camera
- App accounts and alerts configured
Types
Indoor pan-tilt Wi-Fi
Motorised indoor camera with two-way audio and microSD recording.
Outdoor Wi-Fi bullet
Weatherproof Wi-Fi camera for porches, gates and compounds.
Video doorbell
Wi-Fi doorbell camera with chime and two-way talk.
Brands we work with
Ezviz (Hikvision) — Consumer Wi-Fi cameras with a simple app, cloud clips and microSD recording.
TP-Link Tapo / Kasa — Affordable, easy Wi-Fi cameras for homes and small shops.
CP Plus / Hikvision Wi-Fi — Wireless models from the mainstream CCTV brands when you want one app across wired and wireless.
Example configurations
Rental-home kit
2× indoor pan-tilt + 1 doorbell, microSD, app alerts
A rented flat where drilling and cabling are limited
Shop quick-watch
2× outdoor Wi-Fi bullet, cloud clips, two-way audio
A small shop needing a fast, movable setup

Advanced wireless — battery, solar & 4G
For locations with no cabling and sometimes no mains or internet: battery cameras topped up by solar panels, and 4G/LTE cameras that upload over a SIM.
Components
- Battery cameras with solar panels
- 4G/LTE cameras with a data SIM (no Wi-Fi needed)
- Local microSD plus cloud backup
- PIR motion wake-up to conserve battery
- Secure cloud accounts and sharing
Types
Battery + solar camera
Fully wireless — no mains, recharged by a small solar panel.
4G / LTE camera
Uploads over a mobile SIM where there's no broadband.
Wi-Fi NVR kit
A set of wireless cameras paired to a dedicated Wi-Fi recorder for continuous recording.
Remote gate / plot
4G solar-battery camera, SIM, cloud clips
A farm, plot or gate with no power or internet
Construction site
2× 4G cameras, cloud, motion alerts
A temporary site needing movable, cable-free coverage

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is wireless CCTV as reliable as wired?+
Wired PoE is still the most reliable for continuous 24/7 recording. Wireless is excellent where cabling isn't practical — but it depends on Wi-Fi strength or 4G signal, which we survey first. For critical, always-on coverage we usually recommend wired; for flexibility and awkward spots, wireless is ideal.
Do wireless cameras need power?+
Most Wi-Fi cameras still need a power adapter nearby — 'wireless' refers to the video, not the power. Fully wireless options exist as battery cameras (often topped up by a solar panel), which we use for gates, plots and places with no mains.
Can I have CCTV where there's no internet?+
Yes — a 4G/LTE camera uploads over a mobile data SIM, and can also record to a local microSD. It's the usual choice for farms, remote plots and construction sites.
Is wireless CCTV secure from hacking?+
We change default passwords, use strong unique credentials, keep firmware updated and use reputable brands with encrypted cloud. Those steps close the common weaknesses that make cheap, unmaintained Wi-Fi cameras risky.
